We invite you to visit the Shelter to see and adopt one of our beautiful animals. Please bring a leash, adjustable collar or an animal carrier with you.
Purpose: The Community Animal Shelter accepts stray and unwanted animals to help create a safe environment. The adoption process is a win-win situation for the animal and the new owner. The Shelter is a not-for-profit organization and follows the policies and regulations of the County's Animal Control Ordinance.
Adoption Policy: The policies are on file at the Shelter and at the County Council Office located at 201 Jackson Avenue, West, Hampton, S.C. Fees are subject to change for adoptions. You may call or come in to be advised of the current fees. The fees include spaying or neutering the animal. In addition, the animal is given a rabies shot (good for one year) and a seven or five way vaccine.
Fees/Deposits: The Shelter makes every effort to return identified animals to the owner. There is a fee to reclaim an animal for a "first time" occurrence. An accelerated fee is charged for additional offences of the same animal. Proof of vaccination is required. If the animal has not been vaccinated, the Shelter requires a deposit and will be responsible for having the animal vaccinated after which the deposit will be returned to the owner.
There is not a fee for bringing in an unwanted animal. However, a donation will be appreciated.
Funding: The County funds a small portion of the Shelter's budget. Other support comes from municipalities, in-kind services, supplies from local businesses and donations from visitors to the Shelter. All donations are appreciated in the Shelter's efforts to find homes for as many animals as possible.
Staff: The Shelter has a volunteer Director. Compensated employees are one full-time and one part-time employee.
